Quadriceps Tendon Rupture

A tear of the tendon connecting the quadriceps to the kneecap, usually from forceful kicking or a fall, that typically requires surgical repair.

A serious tendon injury that usually needs surgery.

A quadriceps tendon rupture can result from forceful kicking, a direct traumatic impact to the tendon, or a fall. It's a more serious injury than a muscle strain, since the tendon connects the quadriceps muscle directly to the kneecap.

Symptoms include severe weakness in the quadriceps, making it difficult to climb or descend stairs, along with pain, bruising just above the kneecap, and difficulty moving the leg.

Surgical repair is typically required, followed by a carefully staged rehabilitation program to protect the healing tendon while restoring strength and function.
