Ulnar Nerve Injuries

Irritation or injury to the ulnar nerve at the elbow, often from repetitive throwing or a direct blow, causing tingling into the ring and pinky fingers.

A nerve under repetitive stress, especially in throwing athletes.

Ulnar nerve injuries at the elbow are often caused by excessive valgus stress during repetitive throwing, especially during the cocking phase of a throwing motion. Nerve irritation can also come from a direct blow to the cubital tunnel, the classic 'funny bone' hit.

Symptoms include tingling or numbness in the ring and pinky fingers, which can occur during or after throwing, or simply when the elbow is bent for a period of time.

Treatment often starts with adjusting throwing technique and, if needed, bracing. Surgery is generally reserved for cases where symptoms persist or true weakness develops.
