Exercise FAQ: Ask the Experts

Answers to the questions patients ask most often about exercising safely during their recovery.

Your questions about exercising safely, answered.

One of the most common questions patients ask is whether their exercises are too difficult. As a general rule, if you feel more pain more than about ten minutes after exercising, or notice your range of motion decreasing or your function becoming less efficient, you're likely doing too much.

Another frequent question is how far you should stretch into pain. In general, a mild, brief stretching sensation is normal, but sharp or lasting pain is a signal to ease off and check in with your therapist.

Your therapist is always your best resource for questions specific to your program. If something doesn't feel right, it's always worth asking rather than pushing through.
