Guyon's Canal Syndrome (Handlebar Palsy)

Compression of the ulnar nerve at the wrist, common in cyclists from resting the hands on handlebars for extended periods.

A cycling-related nerve compression, similar to carpal tunnel.

Guyon's Canal Syndrome, similar to carpal tunnel syndrome, occurs when the ulnar nerve is compressed in a canal just above the wrist. It's common in cyclists, usually caused by resting the hands on bicycle handlebars for extended periods.

Treatment is similar to carpal tunnel syndrome: activity modification such as a padded cycling glove, rest, splinting, and hand therapy including ultrasound or iontophoresis and exercise. Surgery is less often needed than with carpal tunnel syndrome.
